Aside from professional instruction, what is the best/easiest/most effective way to learn to play the guitar?
I would like to learn the basics by the end of the summer, and my preference would be to use a book or a website, but I am especially skeptical of the majority of websites as most are maintained by amateurs. Is there a particular book or website that is very effective? Also, what should I learn/practice first?
How's this for some basics. The first web page is by a world class guitarist who was one of my professors in college. Most of the sites are by professional guitarists and it should take you at least a year to get through all of this. Even if you don't want to play in the style of music they teach, the basics are all there.
